WORK AT A GLANCE

There have been various development projects carried out by our Congress (I) party collectively in the Bandra Assembly Segment under the leadership and guidance of Hon. Ms. Priya Dutt and well supported by the Municipal Councillors. These projects though suitable funded by the M.P. , M.L.A., and Councillors Funds or other budgetory funds through our collective efforts from the MHADA and Municipal funds were effectively executed by our party colleagues and myself along with th active participation from the local residents.

I hereby give a brief area wise account of the various development projects undertaken :

WATER CONNECTIONS / S.P. LINES / REPLACEMENT OF LINES

Approximately 1375 water connections have been installed / replaced in the entire Assembly Constituency supplying pure and safe water to more than 50,000 people, that has been a luxury for some in the past, even after 50 years of independence.

The various areas where water connections have been installed are:

WATER TANK

Due to the shor tage of water a 30,000 Ltr. Tank was provided at Ram Krishna Nagar, and 10,000 Ltrs. Tank with pump was provided at B.M.C. Colony.

3 Suction tank with pumping facility and 2 inch communication line at Pimpleshwar wadi and Deen Dayal Chawl.

WELLS

Complete cleaning of Chinchpokli well, with new boundry wall & Top Jali was done.

IMPROVEMENT OF WATER SUPPLY

Enlargement of 18” inch water main line from Pali Hill Reservoir to Union park, Hanuman Nagar , Seaface Society , Pathan Chawl. (Work in progress)
Enlargement of 6” inch main water line of 27th. 28th & 30th Road.
6” inch Communication line at Old Kantwadi (behind Chimbai Pumping st).
P. D. Hinduja Marg (Khar T elephone Exchange to S.V. Road) New 24” main water line.

A 24" new water line from Indira Nagar Pipeline upto Fire Brigade, Bandra Reclamation has enhanced water supply to Chapel road, bazar road, Varoda road, Bandra reclamation.
Replacement of 4" line with 6" water main line has enhance supply at Almeida park & TPS IV area comprising of Road 1 to 10.
9" Water line at Carter Road has increase supply to Sherly Rajan area.
Replacement of old corroded and dilapidated lines at Bazar Road to improve water supply to approx 1500 connections.
12” New main water line at Bazaar Road from S.V. Road Junction upto Jeff Caterers (Work in progress)
6” Main water line at Rizvi Complex near Rizvi College.
9” Main water line at Slaughter Home Compound from S.V. Road Junction upto Bandra Bus Depot.

PSC BLOCKS (TOILETS)

Some areas were deprived of basic means of sanitation and as a result residents’ had to make use of pavements and roadsides. By constr ucting and repairing such PSC Blocks (Toilets), we have not only provided them sanitation but also stopped the nuisance of spreading diseases and inconveniencing the general public.
There have been approximately 749 such PSC Blocks (Toilets) constr ucted / repaired in the entire 36-Vandre Assembly Constituency and the areas where the same have been done are:

RETAINING WALL

The retaining wall at Kadeshwari Mandir Marg had collapsed some time back damaging the Mandir and some houses and hence the entire retaining wall was reconstr ucted. Similarly retaining walls at Pali Pathar and Jaffer Baba Colony were also reconstructed.

Balwadi / Gymnasium/ Open Shed

There have been balwadi's and gymnasium's constr ucted in various slum areas thus providing space recreational activities, community functions and providing an oppor tunity for the residents' to intermingle and live harmoniously with each other.

REPAIRING / RECONSTRUCTION OF DRAINAGE LINES / COVERING OF STORM WATER DRAINS / PIPEDRAINS/ ½” ROUND CHANNEL

There were various areas that had faulty drainage systems as a result of which there were blockages causing frequent over flow of drains. This resulted in serious health hazards and spread of diseases. By under taking these repairs and re-constr uctions they have ensured the smooth working of the drainage system.
We have also under taken the covering of various open storm water drains, which were used as a dumping yard for waste garbage and non biodegradable plastics which not only inconvenienced the residents' resulting in water logging but wei also a serious health hazard to our society.

Constr uctive effor ts have been made for beautifying the area by constr uction of flower beds and fixing chequered tiles on pavements in order to provide a better infrastructure, environment and uninterrupted movement of pedestrians.

This technology was first introduced in Bandra by us whereby due to regular digging of roads by different service providing agencies the roads were in a dilapidated condition by fixing interlocking tiles on roads these tiles can be removed and refixed any number of times to carry out different works.

EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES

With the ever increasing demand for primary & secondary education our funds and effor ts were employed in repairs, reconstr uction and rehabilitation and betterment of facilities to various schools & colleges.

BANDRA URDU MUNICIPAL SCHOOL AT SLAUGHTER HOUSE

The Bandra Urdu Municipal School were facin g severe scarcity of space and hence the old dilapidated structure was demolished and 3 wings of around 8500 sq.f t. each were constructed with all modern amenities with the aim of providing a better atmosphere & facilities to the students' & teachers.
The school has also star ted secondar y school & Junior College through our effor ts , as many students' were dropping out as classes were conducted only upto Std. VII.

B. P. E. MARATHI MUNICIPAL SCHOOL

Various works were carried out for the betterment of the school such as compound wall, stage, PSC blocks, levelling of ground, gymnasium,computers were provided.

DURELLO CONVENT

A Various works such as stage, drainage line, chequered tiles and levelling of ground & terrace water proofing were carried out.

M.M.K. COLLEGE / NATIONAL COLLEGE

Works such as painting, raising compound wall, chequered tiles / steps were provided to the college.

COMPUTER EDUCATION

Gauging the need of the hour that is most definitely Computer Education, this novel programme of providing free Computers to various Schools so that they may make their students' computer literate and be abreast with the rest of the progressing world. 5 computers were sanctioned to St. Aloysius High School and 5 computers to B. P. E Marathi High School

FREE NOTE BOOK DISTRIBUTION

Every year around 60,000 note books are distributed free to all poor students' of different schools.

RESTORATION OF HERITAGE CROSS

The BMC had partially demolished a century old cross built in the year 1824 on Carter Road, thereby causing severe resentment to the
local residents'. We got the necessary permission to rebuild the same, Completely Beautified. Old Heritage Cross of Year 1825 at Bandra
Reclamation (Near Rang Sharda) was also beautified.

RESTORATION OF BEACH

The beach on Carter road was being encroached upon. We along with the .residents and the Party workers removed the encroachment and restored the neglected beach at Carter Road.

COMMUNITY SERVICES PROVIDED

Open Ground at Police Quarters, Nutan Nagar, Kam-e-Sharif (Slaughter House Compund), Railway Quarters were repaired and sment
concrete sur facing done for the local residents' to use for various functions and festivals Volley Ball court provided at Chimbai, K hwaja Colony, Railway Quarters.
Basket ball court provided at M.M.K. College.

RELIEF TO FIRE VICTIMS

There was a fire at KEM Colony, Khar whereifraround 50 houses were burnt. Relief was provided to the effected families by way of kitchen sets & around 125 free school uniforms were distributed to the children. Similar such relief work was carried out during the fire at Maharashtra Nagar & Nargis Dutt Nagar

IMPROVEMENT OF GRAVEYARDS

The Hindu Cemetery, Kokani Kabrastan and Bandra Navpada Kabrastan were improved, beautified and facilities were enhanced for the benefit of the locals. The Baudh Cemetery was also improved and a Dharmshala has also been built for the benefit of the locals.

SKYWALK AT BANDRA / SANTACRUZ

A Skywalk at Bandra (West) from Bandra Railway Station upto Lucky Hotel, Bandra Mosque and Bandra Talao with 4 Escalator Exits Being done for the first time in Mumbai. 2nd phase plan is to take the skywalk upto Bandra Police Station, Hill Road (Proposed). A similar skywalk is in progress at Santacruz railway station.\

SUPARITALAO GROUND

The compound walls were rebuilt along with gate and the entire ground was re-levelled to provide better sporting facilities to the local residents'. Changing rooms and toilets were provided for the benefit of children using the ground. A borewell is being proposed to be provided for the regularwatering of the ground

REMOVAL OF DUSTBINS

The public community garbage bins atWaroda Road, Kantwadi Road have been removed, thereby enhancing hygene and cleanliness in the area

INSTALLATION OF STREET LIGHTS

Old Kantwadi (behind Chimbai Pumping station), Chimbai Village (Marathi wadi), Kantwadi, Chimbai Beach, BMC Garden near Ashiana Society , Maharashtra Nagar, Dargah Galli.

MEDICAL EQUIPMENTS PROVIDED TO BHABHA HOSPITAL

The following medical equipments were provided to the K. B. Bhabha Hospital, Bandra for the facilities and benefit of poor patients
1) 4 Heart Monitor Machines 2) X-Ray Machine 3) Sonography Machine

FREE DISTRIBUTION OF ECO-FRIENDLY GARBAGE BINS

There had been a continuous request from various housing societies and resident groups for the supply of Eco-friendly Garbage bins to promote garbage segregation and for general upkeep.

The distribution drive was widely appreciated by local housing societies / buildings / resident groups and we were able to supply 1360 nos 240 litres and 485 nos. - 120 litres high quality OTTO dustbins.

The demand being so tremendous, additional bins have been ordered and the same would be distributed post elections.
We would like to sincerely thank the various local resident groups who actively participated in the distribution of the same and especially to Mrs. Mehra, Peter Dias Road ALM who has always initiated such causes of garbage segregration and the eco-friendly disposal of garbage.

IMPROVEMENT OF CARTER ROAD & BANDSTAND PROMENADES

The Bandra Bandstand & Carter Road Promenades are the landmarks of Bandra and widely used by all sections of society to enjoy clean open spaces. The Carter Road Promenade was extended upto Danda which earlier was a dumping ground. The same was possible only due the the active participation and collective working of the elected representatives and the KBS Foundation. It was their perseverance which enabled us to fur ther extend the promenade upto Danda.
The old Carter Road & Bandstand Promenades are also being improved and are being re-tiled for the benefit of the local residents' at large. The same is being carried out alongwith the active participation of the Bandra (West) Residents' Trust and the Bandra Bandstand Trust.

IMPROVEMENT OF PEACE HEAVEN GROUND, ST ANDREWS ROAD

The Peace Heaven Ground at St. Andrews Road which has been adopted by the local resident group is also being beautified and facilities enhanced for the locals.
A bore well and pumping facilities have been provided for watering the ground. The local resident group have drawn out a detailed improvement plan for the playground and the park to be constructed, the work for which will commence soon.

IMPROVEMENT OF KHOTWADI GROUND

The Khotwadi Ground which was in a dilapidated condition is being improved upon. The Community Centre is being totally redone to enhance sporting facilities for the locals.

The Union Park Garden which is adopted by the local resident group is also proposed to be improved & beutified as per the detailed plans drawn out by the local resident group and the work of which will commence soon.

IMPROVEMENT & BEAUTIFICATION OF BANDRA TALAO

The Bandra Talao is a landmark of sorts and one of the largest open spaces we have in Bandra. The Bandra Talao which is maintained by the BMC has been in a dilapidated condition and needs urgent improvement and beautification. A Rs. 50 lakh budgetor y allocation was sanctioned from the MP & MLA fund for the same. Various follow ups and meetings were held with the Municipal Commissioner and the Additional Municipal Commissioner (W estern Suburbs), with the collective repeated follow ups alongwith our local Councillor and resident
groups. The BMC has decided to beautify the Bandra Talao and the BMC Municipal Architect has drawn up a plan for the beautification and improvement. The proposed special features include - jogging track and walking pathway around the Talao, boating facilities, musical water fountains and light shows along with a small fish acquarium. The project tenders are proposed to be invited soon

N.A. TAXES

The Mumbai Surburban District Collector had issued orders for the increase in non- agricultural N.A. taxes by more that 1000%.
The Salcette Catholic Co op Housing Society, St. Sebastian Home Co-operative Society, Virendra Sahakari Grihan Nirman Ltd. had received notices for the increased amounts.
Ms. Priya Dutt, M.P. and Baba Siddique led a delegation to the Chief Minister who has stayed the order on the steep exhorbident increase,
thereby bringing respite to the various members of these societies and the same has been acknowledged by the Salcette Catholic Co-op
Housing Society in their newsletter of sept. 2009

AMENDMENT OF THE MAHARASHTRA FLAT OWNERSHIP ACT

Baba Siddique initiated the state goverment to enact the amendment to the Maharashtra Flat Ownership Act, wherin the conveyance of the property can now be given to the respective societies even without the N.O.C. from the builders, therby bringing relief to thousands of societies in Mumbai.

STAY ON THE WIDENING OF HILL ROAD
